As many of you know, my lovely wife Jill is taking a government job so she can be read in to intelligence compartments that I can’t even dream about.
From now on, at dinner, Jill will just sit quietly, thinking “What a supercilious fool I’ve married.”
Come to think of it, it won’t change our relationship much at all.

Congrats to Jill, sorry to miss the happy hour, and greetings from your old haunts in Cambridge! At the risk of coming off as supercilious, in the posited scenario, wouldn’t Jill be the supercilious one, i.e. disdainful of your lack of SCIF-worthy knowledge? As for either of you sitting quietly, well, that doesn’t strike me as very plausible either…:)

I’m from the old school where such clearances were considered a serious “responsibility” rather than a name badge to be worn at social gatherings. Can you imagine, during our security briefings they would actually tell us not to flaunt our clearances around in or outside of the work area – let alone broadcasting it on the internet?

The times have changed. Especially when the CIA employee does it to themselves by first by going to various” in-the-business sites”, social gatherings, etc. telling others they are a NOC. But, by your opinion Sandy Berger was just acting in defense of his nation.
